Previo al lanzamiento del juego, Netherrealm Studios en asociación con DC Comics se encuentra lanzando el cómic del juego, el cual es una pre-cuela o sinopsis de los hechos que acontecen en el universo MK luego de los hechos de Mortal Kombat 9.

El cómico Mortal Kombat X es una serie lanzada y publicada por DC Comics en asociación con Netherrealm Studios, que sirve como precuela a su juego del mismo nombre.


Tras el éxito rotundo y violenta de Injustice Gods Among Us cómics serie, Mortal Kombat X es un primer título digital, viendo el contenido del cómic desglosado en varios capítulos antes de que se lance una copia física. 

La historia del cómic se lleva a cabo después de los acontecimientos de línea de tiempo reiniciado de Mortal Kombat, y sigue los acontecimientos de los dos personajes que aparecen en Mortal Kombat X y personajes de la larga historia de Mortal Kombat, que muestra su lugar en la nueva línea de tiempo.
