Aliens: Fire and Stone is a four-issue limited comic book series that was first published by Dark Horse Comics from September-December 2014. It was also published simultaneously in the digital format via Dark Horse Digital. The story was written by Chris Roberson, illustrated and inked by Patric Reynolds, colored by Dave Stewart, lettered by Nate Piekos and edited by Roxy Polk and Philip R. Simon, with cover art by David Palumbo. Fiona Staples also provided a variant cover for the first issue. It follows a group of colonists who managed to escape from Hadley's Hope as the Xenomorph outbreak there began. The series was released alongside the tie-in short story Aliens: Field Report.
Aliens: Fire and Stone formed the Aliens component of Dark Horse's franchise-crossing Fire and Stone event in 2014/2015, and was released in conjunction with Prometheus: Fire and Stone, Alien vs. Predator: Fire and Stone and Predator: Fire and Stone. The four series all share an interconnected story.
When Dr. Elizabeth Shaw uncovered a star map to the distant moon of LV-223, she took it as a sign from God—an Invitation from our creators, proof that mankind is not alone in the universe...
When Shaw and the Crew of the Prometheus finally reached LV-223, they learned the terrifying truth: Indeed, we are not alone, and our creators' plans for us are not those of a loving God. After a harrowing ordeal during which the rest of the crew of the Prometheus met their fate, Shaw and the damaged android David left LV-223 in search of further answers—never knowing that the carnage left behind them would give rise to a horrific new life that could lead to the end of all.
In the decades that followed, LV-223 was left undisturbed by humanity—until tragedy rocked a deep space mining colony named Hadley's Hope on nearby LV-426.
July 3, 2179. 9:15 AM, Earth Central Time. Hadley's Hope, on LV-426, AKA "Acheron," one of three known moons of the Calpamos planetoid in the Zeta 2 Reticuli system, comes under attack by relentless, bloodthirsty Xenomorphs, and most of the population is killed. Terraforming Derrick Russell and teacher Genevieve Dione lead a group of survivors to a rickety mining vessel, the Onager, where they find Weyland-Yutani prospector and "Wildcatter" Nolan Cale directing his team of miners and survivors onto the same ship. Cale notices Xenomorphs entering a cargo hold on the Onager before they take off, but he tells nobody and is knocked out during the flight. After crash landing on LV-223, the castaways open the cargo hold and are surprised to find their lethal stowaways. They're also surprised to be surrounded by a lush jungle, instead of a barren, lifeless environment they were expecting.
The Hadley's Hope survivors must now deal with the tenacious Xenomorphs they've brought with them to LV-223 and with arguing leaders who threaten to tear the desperate group apart.
Weeks later, Cale admits his guilt, and a small team is sent to retake the Onager. Everyone's killed, except for Cale who is splashed with the black goo in the battle, mutates and leads the Xenomorphs to the hidden human camp. As the rest of the Hadley's Hope survivors are slaughtered, Russell, hidden nearby in a secret cave, hears their cries.
